Organic SEO (natural placement) for SME’s

by Catherine Jordan

02 20, 2015 | Posted in Blog | 0 comments

Because You Know It Makes Sense When it comes to marketing SME’s don’t have the ad budgets or the staff let alone the time that bigger companies have but they can ‘box clever’ when it comes to Organic SEO. Budgets don’t matter when it comes to search engines like Google and SEO is a great way to level the playing field and steal market share. It’s all about being ‘out there’ and proud, telling the world about your products and services and creating your brand awareness. You want your customer to believe that your company are the ‘go to’ people in your industry without spending massive budgets and here’s some hints for how might do that: Let your customers know that you exist

  • Good branding/corporate identity and message
  • Excellent Website (mobile ready)
  • SEO
  • Corporate Brochure
  • Good photography
  • Corporate Video
  • Video Tutorials
  • Advertising
  • Editorial
  • Sponsorship
  • Social Media
  • E-zines and Newsletters
  • Blogging
  • Testimonials & Case Studies
  • And on and on and on I could go……
Like a puppy SEO is for Life NOT just for Christmas Make a Plan
  • Plan and create digital marketing strategy.
In-bound Links – Focus on your customer
  • Create a fantastic website experience with great content for your customers.
  • Great content attracts great links, especially when you promote it and leverage social SEO channels of distribution. If it’s good for your potential customers, odds are it’s good for SEO too.
Commit regular time to SEO
  • Keep up to date with current events and what your competitors are up to.
Researching your keywords is essential
  • Know the keywords and key-phrases people are using to search for the products and services you are offering.
  • For internal links avoid using CLICK ME or CLICK HERE. Use natural language instead i.e. Fantastic Spring offers
Time is of the essence – Patience is a virtue!
  • Keep an eye on reports to see where your traffic is coming from – making changes where necessary.
Think about a PPC campaign
  • If you don’t have the patience to wait then you could try a Google AdWords PPC campaign.
  • This costs money but be realistic with budgets if you want to be top.
  • Remember to monitor everything.
Use search engine friendly URLs
  • Place relevant keywords in URL folders and filenames will help rank your pages higher. (Make sure to use hyphens rather than an underscore in filenames.  Hyphens are treated as spaces by most search engines whereas underscores are not)
Social Networking
  • Research the social media that will be most relevant to your business.
  • When you’ve decided, make sure to take time to set it up properly, post regularly and publish relevant content often.
  • Keep it fresh and relevant
Inbound Link Generation
  • Links from your website don’t really matter.
  • INBOUND links, or links from other websites are what count.
Your Website is Your Shop Window Make it Sexy:   First impressions are crucial and the importance of a good website cannot be overestimated. Make it Easy: Your website must represent your business well, must be easy to navigate, create a ‘Killer’ first customer experience and very importantly these days, be mobile responsive (remember that over 70% of smartphone users will access your website on their phone – if your site isn’t mobile ready you will lose customers). Plan It: When building a website, planning is key! Plan your website navigation well. Speed is Key: Apart from improving your customer’s experience, Google have introduced speed to their ranking. Don’t make customers wait! Link It: Internal links help with SEO, also adding to the user experience and gives them an add on value. Take advantage of Local Search:   63% of consumers use search engines to research information about local companies. Optimise for this. Product Photography
  • Do not scrimp on photography, especially if you are selling on line.
  • Allocate a budget to a professional product photo shoot it will pay off tenfold in the long run and make your look far more professional.
Content is Key – Write for your customers not just for GOOGLE
  • Create content that is interesting and relevant to your customers. Nothing more annoying than bombarding your customers with useless content generated just for SEO – they’ll leave and never come back.
  • Remember that Search Engines can’t buy anything from you, ONLY customers can do that!
  • Be unique and be yourself! Tell your story and make it interesting.
  • Turn everything into content:
  • Generate video tutorials for your product
  • Generate a corporate video
  • Write Case Studies & Testimonials
  • Blogging – A great way to promote your business and your industry knowledge.
  • Google and other search engines love active websites.
  • Posting regular new content will attract Google back more often to crawl your website for information, picking up keywords viewed on their SERPs (search engine results pages).
Showcase your Knowledge
  • WOW your customers with information. Make sure they know that you’re an authority.
  • Get out there and teach your customer. Teaching is the perfect way to make sales.
Advertise Strategically
  • Local Advertising creates customer loyalty
  • Good content and photographs will get you free editorial
  • Sponsoring a local event or fund-raiser can give your website the volumes of traffic your campaign is looking for.
Analyse Everything – Google Analytics is FREE!
  • Google analytics is absolutely essential for tracking and reviewing all activity to your website.
  • By using Google Analytics you can measure all activity in detail:
  • Unique visits, returning visitors, visit duration, bounce rates,
  • Referral traffic, mobile visits, pages viewed, social metrics, conversion rates etc.
Email Marketing – A vital part of your digital marketing strategy
  • Growing and categorising your customer and potential customers email lists is very important
  • Collecting data helps you to reach your customers.
  • Always remember to add value to your customers through your email campaigns i.e. offers, discounts etc.
  • Mobile users are increasing every day and open rates on mobile devices are constantly getting higher so make sure your email design is responsive and looks good on mobile.

Social Media Marketing – predictions for 2015!

by Catherine Jordan

02 12, 2015 | Posted in Blog | 0 comments

2015!!! Have you got your head around that yet? It’s that time of the year to dust off my crystal ball and bring you my Social Media Marketing predictions for 2015 … Video becomes the Social Media content format of choice This year, video will dominate! It will drive your social engagement across many platforms. Last year, Facebook had more video views than YouTube via the desktop. However YouTube still had more views across all devices. In the last quarter of 2014, Facebook increased video views per day by 30 times from the previous quarter.   Facebook videos have significantly more shares than YouTube, which is a really important factor to keep in mind – Facebook has much more interaction. Too much information – the flight of the filters One enormous hurdle which your Social Media marketing will have to get over is the wall of information – information density!   By 2020, the web is expected to increase by 600 % (this is a conservative percentage). So, the challenge is getting your content to stand out in the crowd. Many businesses are already seeing a sharp downturn in their organic reach (not advertising) as there is just so much content on there. The trend is to have high quality content and spend on advertising – one word – COSTLY! So it’s extremely important that you’re hitting the mark with content and grabbing the attention of your target audience. Filters – new apps and filters are emerging to help consumers make better content choices. Programmes like Zite will filter content and learn about your preferences. As more and more filters are used, marketers will have the additional challenge of getting their content through these filters to compete!  SlideShare – your business tool in Linkedin This year, SlideShare will emerge as the key social networking tool for business professionals, where they can find and share content. Here you can create, distribute and view presentations. It’s a great B2B tool for marketers to get content to their target audience. Great presentations will drive page views, leads and contribute to your SEO. SlideShare has already added video capabilities to Linkedin Influencers and is due to roll this out to it’s entire audience this year. Video posting directly across all platforms – YouTube just won’t do! Gone are the day when marketers could upload their videos to YouTube and then post the link across all their other Social Media platforms. In 2015 this just won’t do. Social Networks are giving preference (extra exposure) to hosted videos as they want to keep their users on their platforms. Currently, businesses looking to promote on social media, directing traffic back to their site or get the consumers to call or email – causing the consumer to take many steps. Many methods will be introduced to see direct action taken from the social media platform – purchasing through a tweet, click to call, Facebook orders and so on, which will drive the user directly to an action. Paid advertising – there’s no way around it! And now for the bad news ….. yes, we’ve all been ‘pushed’ into paying for advertising across many social media platforms and 2015 is going to continue on with this trend. Facebook plans to stifle your organic promotional posts in news feeds in early 2015, Twitter may follow this trend and haven’t ruled it out, Instagram is expanding their advertising platform, all implementing a similar algorithm which limits the organic posts from businesses. At the moment, paid social leads to 25 % more conversation then organic social, which will see an increase again this year. Yes, they have us hooked, now we will have to embrace social advertising or sink to the bottom! Republishing – Grow your Reach Any business page manager on Facebook will tell you that obtaining organic reach, on any post, is a fraction of what it used to be. So, do we just have to pay to reach our audiences? Well, sadly we are going to have to spend more, but there is another way to increase organic reach – republishing! Yes, it will no longer be effective to publish your posts just once, you’ll now need to republish multiple times. What you’ll effectively be doing, is reaching small audiences, but in multiple slots, increasing your organic reach. By spending less time writing new content and using this time to republish, you’ll be spending more time online, interacting with fans. It’s this type of engagement that Facebook values and will reward with more organic reach. Go for the Combo! Focusing on one platform only? Big mistake! Integrating your social media marketing is going to be a must this year. Having a ‘Facebook strategy’ or a ‘Twitter strategy’ is like putting all your eggs in one basket. Social Media platforms make regular changes and you could lose your following very quickly. You need to have a combined approach, focus on multiple social networks and find ways to use them in a powerful way together. If you post a video on Facebook, share it on Twitter – find ways to direct your traffic between your networks. All hail the mighty Hashtag # This year, it’s all about bringing all your platforms together. The hashtag can connect conversations across many platforms. From these posts, communities can be quickly formed, people with common interests – these areas can be full of powerful data for your market research. With a hashtag, you don’t even have to be where the action is happening, you can join the conversation and get involved. Let’s say there was an exhibition that you couldn’t attend – on the day, you could search for the relevant # and people who are there, exhibitors, speakers, videos and photos will all be available for you to view and comment. #ILove2015
